Hamilton Cave - 4/02/23

Harriet Flynn reporting

Harriet, Kara, Mark, Chris A, Eric, John, Margo, and Karl met at the gas station in Franklin and drove down the road together to the parking area near Hamilton Cave. After a nice steep and fast hike up to the cave we headed in the entrance at about 11:40am. Our goal was to head towards the back near to location of The Airblower. After lots and lots of crawling and many pieces of flagging tape places to mark the path, we made it to Rosslyn Escalator. It took us a little while to decide the best ways for each of us to get down the escalator but we all got down there and then stopped for a break and snack.

The Airblower was right near us so we took a look and several people are interested in going back on another trip to go through The Airblower (Karl, Mark, John, Eric, Margo may be up for the tight squeeze).

We then headed to the Old Room and the Duck Room really hoping that the Duck Room would be full of mud sculpture ducks. We were very wrong and assume it is named that because of all the ducking and crawling that was needed.

After accomplishing the goal of our trip it was time to head back out of the entrance. First we had to make it back up the escalator and do lots more crawling. We made it back to the entrance in 40 minutes.

Over all we had a great trip, enjoyed seeing the different shell fossils, and only questioned our location one or two times. We exited the cave at 2:50 and headed back to the town of Franklin for ice cream and to go home.
