Glade Cave - 7/24/2026

Harriet Flynn Reporting

On Wednesday July 22, 15 of us met up to cave at Glade! This was a fantastic trip for new cavers and we had 9 people experience their first cave and we lent out 12 helmets!

On the trip were Harriet, Zachary, Maya, Timmy (1st cave), Leigh Ashley (1st cave), Ben (1st cave), Rheme (1st cave), Rachael, Annika (1st cave), Ihab, Vaino (1st cave), Hunter, Ian (1st cave) Margaret, and Joy (1st cave).

Once we were all dressed and ready to go, we headed into the cave at about 7:15pm.

We sat as a group in the first room and went over some caving basics as well as the map and then we split into two groups with the plan that Margaret and her group would do the north part of the cave for 35 minutes while Harriet’s group headed south. We met back together after 35 minutes and switched places.

Margaret led a group that consisted of Maya, Ian, Timothy, Leigh Ashley, Vaino, and Joy. Here report back is: “Group 2 (7 folks) explored the north end first. Maya and Leigh Ashley tackled the commando crawl. We switched to the south end for the second half and had some fun teamwork getting down and back up both sides of the main drop. Our youngest member Timothy took the lead down the south passage and aced the climb out. He says he'll be back! No one seemed too disappointed to not be totally coated in mud, but I did plunge into one deeper spot for funsies, barely emerging with both boots. Bonus: Vaino found a fossil in the rock just outside the entrance for us all to examine.”

Harriet’s group of Ben, Rheme, Rachael, Annika, Ihab, Zachary, and Hunter headed south towards and down the ladder and did the loop through the birth canal. Everyone conquered the multiple ropes, ladder, and tight squeeze and moved so quickly and efficiently we covered a lot of ground in the 35 minutes we had. When we met back up with the other group to switch places everyone was putting off a lot of steam from working so hard. We chilled a little more in the north end of the cave doing the commando crawl, getting photos, and exploring all the nooks and crannies we could find. Right before heading back out of the cave the whole group turned headlamps off and did the commando crawl in complete darkness.

The full group left the cave together minutes before 9pm with high morale and great desire to get back in another cave soon!
