Breathing Cave - 8/23/2026

Harriet Flynn Reporting

At the last two grotto meeting Scott B announced that he was going to be going to Breathing Cave to lead a cave trip. Harriet, Chris M, Chris A, Scott B, and Evan met up at 9:00am at the parking area for Breathing Cave.

We walked the very long approach to the cave and went in at 10:15am and headed to the “new section”. Chris M led us and despite having the maps, didn’t need to reference them at all. We moved fairly quickly through the cave, crawling and squeezing through several areas as well as walking though large rooms with very tall ceilings. The water was a lot lower in Serpentine Way than it was two years ago when we were last in this cave. The water fall was just a trickle and we were able to get closer to the edge of the waterfall to see how steep and deep it really was. The conclusion is that there is no way we could get down it with out vertical gear. We turned around at this point and Chris M and Scott B tried some other passages to see if we could get around the waterfall (the map showed other routes) but were not able to find one that we felt comfortable doing. We were ready to head back out of the cave and made it back pretty quickly. We exited the cave at 2:15pm after a nice 4 hours in the cave.
