Glade Cave - 8/29/2026
Harriet Flynn Reporting
Harriet, Helen, Tyler, Haley, Matt and his daughter Ena, Kathryn and Lucas met up in Bridgewater at 9:00am and then drove the last 10 minutes to the cave. Once parked we got dressed and distributed the grotto helmets to the people who needed them. This was Helen, Ena, and Lucas’s first ever cave trip!
We headed underground at 9:45am for a classic beginner Glade trip. We talked through some cave details and went over the map in the first dark room of the cave before heading north in the cave to explore. Everyone did the commando crawl and the two other crawls in that area. We then looked at the map again and Lucas was given the challenge to get us to the next room we wanted to go to. We took a group photo and then headed back to the commando crawl where Haley led everyone through it with lights fully shut off. She did a fantastic job explaining what was happening to the people behind her. She then was given the map and led the group to our next destination. We headed down the first rope and then the second rope before it was Matt’s turn to lead us down the ladder and to the smallest squeeze of the day.
I took photos of people as they came through the tight squeeze and it was definitely tighter on some people’s shoulders than others. we made a loop and then headed back to the front of the cave.
As we exited the cave at 11:30am there was a praying mantis with her wings out that we avoided stepping on.
Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time on the trip and there is interest in going back for more exploring as well as going in some other caves.
